Yes. Incredibly naive. There is much, for the safety of the troops, that you do not know. Nor does your teacher. It's always easier to be an armchair politician than actual player.

Actually no. You would be naive if you choose to believe what the Secretary of State tells you and the troops certainly aren't informed about the big picture. The troops never are. They are simply told where to go, when to do it and who to put down.
Many of our troops are pretty unclear about the current missions in Iraq. I'm sure the Secretary of State and Defense are pretty clear on it...but believe me they aren't sharing the truth with any of us.
So Chris Matthews, your teacher...and many others are rational folks who look at a situation and see it for what it is and have no hidden agenda guiding them in their thinking.
14 permanent bases are being constructed in Iraq...do we really know why??? I mean hypothetically do we really understand what our government is up to Iraq?? And are we naive enough to believe that we are spreading democracy in the Middle East???

Yes. But it's also naive to think any of us knows the whole story.

Maybe the secretary of state but as a veteran you have to be there to really know. I admire your self esteem.

No, but it would be foolhardy to assume they know everything.

I don't understand the question but you have to be informed and decide for yourself. It is your responsibility as a citizen
Never blindly trust any government official.
And troops are often least informed as they are in a "never question the mission" culture and are often given information on a need to know basis in order to maintain morale. I know this from personal and family experience in the military.
