Just be yourself and give the best you can in your job. Don't get involved in the office gossip and be friendly to everyone.

Do the job better than the guy in the next cubicle. Actually staying in ONE job is a bad long term plan. You should be trying to ADVANCE either within the company, or to another company.

In addition to showing up clean, sober, ready to work, and having a good attitude, try these:

1. Dress a little better than your peers but not better than your boss.

2. ASk your boss if there is anything extra you can do to help.

3. When you get to know your boss and the job fairly well, ask the boss if you can ask a question or two about their job. They will say yes, at which point you say "I want to know what your job is like. I see what you do with me/us, but what are some of the problems you face? What issues do you have to deal with?" If the boss relates a problem or issue and you think you can help, ask if you can. If you make your boss' job easier, you will be around a long time.

Blackmail is good too, and can be a lot easier.
