appeasement or collective security?

Appeasement is only effective with people that have no grand ambitions. Unfortunately people that must be appeased always have grand ambitions. Now, neither appeasement or collective security are guaranteed to prevent a war. If the guys is determined enough he'll start a war eventually anyway. But with collective security you are in a position to respond to the threat much more effectively.

The World wasn't plunged into war in 1939. A European war began then, which became a world war in 1941.

WWII was the result of the inherent conflict between competing nation-states for markets and resourses.

Nobody ever appeased Hitler. Chamberlain thought he had a deal with Hitler to push him east to take on the Soviet Union. Chamberlain was complicit with Hitler, but Hitler played him for a fool.

Appeasement did not work, as Neville Chamberlain found out, and beyond that, you will need to do your own research.
