Terrence, this is typically slang for Alcoholics Anonymous, a support group for addicts. There is also another support group, called Al Anon which is for family and loved ones affected by people with addictions.

AA stands for Alcoholics Anonymous. It is a program that is stictly free to attend and allows the person to evaluate his/ her drinking. If someone has an issue, or even believes that they have an issue with alcohol, it is a very safe place to meet others who have been there and can help that person see if they have the same issue.
It is a program that is based on a simple program and is designed to allow its members/attendees to relieve themselves from the bondage of alcoholism.
There are no dues, fees or expectations. There will not be anyone who leads or runs or demands anything from this person. It is strictly up to that person to decide if they want what is offered.
There are meetings all over the world, in every city. If that person wants to know more about the AA's in his/her area, or those that love that person feel that this may be something that this person may want to explore, then simply google or yahoo : alcoholics anoymous, then the city that they live in.
