I heard that an asteroid,or whatever,is due to collide with Mars at the end of January.
Will we be able to see it with a small telescope?
Any information, please?

The asteroid itself is too faint and far away to be visible with anything but the largest professional telescopes: 24th magnitude. But the impact itself, if it happens, may be visible. Unfortunately Mars will have set by the predicted time in eastern North America, but it will still be above the horizon on the west coast, Australia, and the Far East.

Forget it. The best estimate at this time is that it will NOT occur, about 1:20 at best. If it does happen, we might get some film at 11 or pix on a NASA web site. Don't stay up for it.
