This is almost impossible I guess. But what if this did happen?

It rotates, not in circles, but on its axis. if the rotation stops suddenly, everything, that is not securely fastened, will fly off the earth (at a tangent at about 300 mph at the equator). Like the moon, the earth will present the same face to the sun. If you are talking about the earth revolving aroud the sun, it will fall into the sun.

the side of the earth facing away from the sum would become very cold, maybe minus 400 F.

seasons would not change. we would have constant summer on the side of the earth facing the sun with very high temperatures in some places.

there would be significant population loss on the dark side of the earth where temperatures would fall.

on the sunny side of earth, there would also be loss of life due to very high temperatures in some places.

there would be problems with pollution and new diseases.

the earth would be severely stressed as a result of a stagnant system.

if the sahara, gobi or chilean desert was at the center of the side facing the sun, there might be severe water shortages.

however, its unlikely the planets would remain stationery. since we are floating in space there is always movement and that movement appears to be in circles.

what if the earth stopped rotation in circles...???

well...
first of all, i think you mean
"orbiting" not "rotating"
(you mean what if it stopped going around the sun,
right?)

and it doesn't go in a circle.
it goes in an elipse (oval shape).

all that aside...

there are 2 things keeping the planet in orbit,
gravity and enertia.

gravity is the pull from the sun,
enertia is the movement of the earth, and the fact that any object in motion will stay in motion unless acted uppon by an outside force.

without the gravity from the sun pulling us in,
our planet would go zooming off into the univese
in a straight line.

without enertia,
the earth would autimatically be sucked into
(and crash into)
the sun because it would have no centrifical force
keeping it out in it's orbit.

put simply,
if Earth stopped moving,
it would crash into the sun

(that's 7th grade science right there,
thanks Ms. Anex ^_^)

This question has been hypothesized by geologists and physicists alike. First off, neither Earth's revolution around the Sun nor its axial spin are circular in shape. In the event that the axial rotation does stop, it is likely that the Earth will get hotter. One thing that is 100% sure is that about half of the Earth will be in perpetual darkness while the other half will be in perpetual light. Life may cease to exist, for the balance of light and darkness is essential for biological and organic processes.

Our weather patterns would change.
There might not be any movement of air such as weather patterns going from the west to the east.

We would have two climates on earth, the dark side would be cold and the light side would be unbelievely hot.

it would always be day on one side of the earth and night on the other

We would either:
1> stop aging (cool)
2> Time would stop
3> Days would be eliminated
4> A day would be the length of 356 days.
5> One side of the earth would be incredibly hot and bright, and the other would be cold and dark.
OR (if worst comes to worst)....
6> We'd all die.

It would sail off into the wide , blue yonder as they say.It would be off course and lose its stability in the order of things.
