After a 28 year marriage, I decided to keep my married name. . .It was so much easier and there are so many papers you have to fill out to get it all changed over. Most people just keep the married last name.. . . .

If you like the name you have, then keep it.
Now would be a good time for a change, if that's what you want.

If you still have children at home, keep your married name to avoid any confusion or embarrassment for them. You can get rid of it once they're gone. If your kids are older or you don't have any, go ahead and change it. Changing your name will be very liberating for you psychologically. It will help you feel like your own person, and it will probably also help you move on from a painful past.

Too much trouble to change.
It's worse than losing your credit card.

do you have minor children? You may want to hold on to the name.
what does going back to your original name mean or symbolize to you? Would it help you feel more optimistic about your new future, would it feel like you are shedding the past? then yes, I would change it.
Good Luck.
btw, my mother was divorced from my father for 10 years. She changed her name when she remarried. She did once make the comment that if she didn't have children, she would have gone back to her maiden name.
