there is a guy at work who is a control freak, unfortunately he isn't a subordinate but he isn't my superior either, we are at the same level, problem is he doesn't just do HIS job, he is always trying to tell me how he thinks i ought to do mine and he frequently interferes with my work by telling people to do things that are contrary to what i have asked them to do or he will physically come in and rearrange things or cancel orders i have made or make changes to them. nothing that he does is actually helpful, it sometimes will work either way (his or mine) but by him doing this is causes confusion among the workers and mistakes are made because of it. my boss knows about this and is too timid to do anything about it (he is the owner but he is still too timid to reprimand the guy) i feel that if i am blunt with this problem person and outright tell him to stay out of my business he will become a dire enemy, how can i diplomatically handle this situation? im about ready to just quit.

The guy may not even know he is doing it. He may be trying to help you, in his mind. The next time it comes up, you could say something like," Joe, I really want to try doing this project, my way, just to see how if it works or not. Thanks for the help, but on this one, I need to do it my way."

That way you are telling him to butt out, but at the same time you are being nice about it, and "Joe" may even think that you are taking him into your confidence, and he may think more of you for it.

good luck.

don't quit...maybe that is what he really wants...to be the only one on the level that you are both on...

ever heard of fighting fire with fire?

or you can take him aside and explain to him that his behavior is unacceptable...

basically your choice, but I bet if the shoe were on the other foot and he was wearing YOUR shoes, he wouldn't like it a bit...experience is the best teacher after all.

your dignity is more important, so you tell him if he does something again, that you know what your doing and tell him to stop being so controllive of everything. If he doesn't listen you tell someone whats happening that will make him stop being so controllive. Also you should just confront him yourself if he becomes your enemy, so be it becuase you don't need things like that.

Obviously, your boss isn't going to do anything. You only have 2 options. Either stand up for yourself, or quit. To continue dealing with it is doing a disservice to yourself.

You need to have a sit down meeting with the boss and the other person and explain your concerns and see what the boss has to say - if you don't have his support then you may as well put up with it or start looking.

Talk with this boss and explain to him that the other guy is a problem not matter how good he is or his job preformance.Tell the boos it would benifit the compnay to keep this control freak to a minimum and not let him interfere with your duyties and work. make your boss look good no matter what the c/f does.
