The ones that say that the Patriots suck are those that haven't a clue about the sport of football. They have no respect for any team and their knee jerk response is to claim a team or any team in particular "sucks". The word suck when applied to any football team or for that matter any team in any sport is an indicator to what little they understand.
But the Patriots are currently one of the best teams in all of football. They will stand shoulder to shoulder with the 70's Steelers, 80's and 90's 49'ers, 90's Cowboys. Its a small exclusive club and the Patriots are knocking on that door.

Tom Brady is still consider the best quarterback in football history. The Patriots are a dominant team for the past 10 years. The Packers, Seahawks, Steelers, Broncos, Cowboys, Cardinals and others only come in second. The average team are the Chiefs, Panthers, Rams, 49ers, Dolphins and others. The worst try are Raiders, Jaquars, Jets, and a few more.

The New England Patriots are a great team, no doubt, and Tom Brady is just a winner. But, until they are Super Bowl Champions, they are not even in the club. Now, I'm not taking anything away from them, and I already said they are a great team, but you can't be "the best" until you are the champions.
As far as the first team to go 16-0, please check your resources. The team that gets my vote for best all-time right now, until we see if the Pats can finish the season, would have to be the 1972 Miami Dolphins. This was the first team to go 16-0, albeit in a shorter season. Their 16-0 season included the playoffs and the Super Bowl.
Now, if the Pats can finish the dance and win the Super Bowl, then we can compare them to this team, but not until then.

That is a debate that won't even be settled if the Patriots go undefeated for three more games. There will always be an argument about it. I would like to know how many people scribbling on these pages who have been watching pro football since the 1950's. Doesn't take much thought to realize that this is a totally different game being played now. It's impossible to say how these Pats would stack up against Lombardi's teams or even against the Steel Curtain of the 1970's. If you judge strictly based on the competition and the probability of this type of success, if New England wins out this season, you'd have to put them up there as one of the best, if not the best team that ever played the game to this point. I would certainly like to see it happen, but the thing is, every time they go out there, teams are playing them like it's the Superbowl, so it's just going to become even more difficult from here on in--which would make a Superbowl victory that much sweeter for them.

Best in history?
If they can go 19-0 and win the SB then you might have a case.
Not yet though.
