There are people that have been known to go quite a while without sleep, but I am sure at some point you would eventually fall asleep

I can tell you this for a fact. My Mother had chronic insomnia form ages 9-60. Two hours of sleep was a GOOD NIGHT. Many nights she did not sleep at all. She ached of fatigue, but kept on going.
Finally she found help through a sleep clinic. They put her on a "circadian" schedule. Today, she's a young 79, rested and sleeps 7 hours a night! Closest thing to a miracle I've ever seen.
I guess that kinda answers your question! I've heard that geniouses need less sleep. There are people that get by on 2 hours a night. But I've never heard of anyone that never sleeps. I guess it would be pretty easy to investigate on this little machine here. Interesting question deserves a star! ;-)

yes, there is a point at which you will just fall asleep, no matter what's going on around you, if you're very sleep deprived. sleep is absolutely necessary, and i don't think it's possible that someone would never fall asleep again. there are certain medical conditions that can lead to chronic insomnia, and of course medications and different therapies are needed, but even these people would eventually fall asleep, if only for a very brief amount of time.

yes, your body will eventually shut down and cause you to sleep. Depending on how long you've gone without sleep, the only question is: when and if you wake up!

If you try to stay awake for a certain amount of time, you will automatically fall asleep. Your body simply has to run on some sort of energy and thats what sleep is for.
