Juuust another routine day with a 3 1/2 year old energetic little male of the species! Lol! And today's question: how do I get the base of the broken light bulb out of the lamp without further damage to it or to me?? 60 watts.
To anyone following this saga, we do get the " Dragon" (vacuum cleaner) back from the repair shop with its new replacement cord tomorrow. It was killed dead by my 40" tall gallant knight - not two weeks after he single handedly took out my oven by tossing an old cell phone charger into it , unbeknownst to me! ( Well, I did learn that a charger will melt- flat at 450* like a big hard cookie) Any helpful hints as to replacing an oven element while we are here? Lol!
Well on the bright side, I will probably keep all you wonderful people with the handiness know-how busy dispensing your wisdom for a while!

Get a potato, impale the broken glass in it, and turn normally. And, of course, discard (not good for mashing any more!)
As for the element, it sounds like you need a new one. Actually, they are pretty easy to replace (once you have gotten the right one) . Here's a link for you http://www.appliance411.com/faq/replace-oven-element.shtml
Happy New Year!

Go to the breaker panel and turn off the breaker for the branch that feeds the light bulb socket. Then take medium size needle nose pliers spread the jaws and insert them into the inside of the threaded light bulb base and try to open the jaws of the pliers while rotating them counter clockwise. Hopefully you will have enought friction between the pliers and the bulb base to rotate it so it will unscrew. I have done this, and it works for me.

Use a potato, cram it into the socket and then turn it as you would when taking out a regular bulb.

UNPLUG THE LAMP!!!
I agree with BERNIE. Needle nose pliers. The heck with a messy wet potato and all the problems with cleaning it out of the socket.

I hope that you are sure that the power is off first...Ha!
I have found success many times with a needle-nosed plier as a home repairman.

UNPLUG the light & put on a pair of glasses & gloves. Grab a pair of pliers and grip onto the element (firmly) and just unscrew it.
Save the potato to eat!!!!!
As for the oven element, it might just plug in, or it could be screwed in from the back. Best idea...do a quick search online with the model number & figure out what the manufacturer says!!

There are other ways to unscrew the base, but half a potato will do it. The oven unit is easy to replace. It plugs in just like the burners, i think. It may or may not have a screw. Easy job for papa. Happy New Year.

Before you attemot this put on some goggles...available for a few buck at Home Depot or Lowe'ss...Just make sure the switch is off to the light and take a large screwdriver and force it up into the socket and unscrew the remains of the old bulb. Please make sure you are wearing eye protection and that the swith to the fixture is off!

YEP YEP use a potato but,cut the top part flat first, and you get only one shot to put it over the socket and into the socket at the same time. Or you gotta cut up another potato and try again. Just turn it to remove the broken bulb.
Sounds like you have quite a kid there.......may need drugs to calm him down......or a harness and leash......... LOL
