Ok, so I haven't acutally started my period yet, but I dance ballet 6 days a week with about 3 weeks off a year. This means that wearing a pad anytime except at night and on Sundays is impossible because there's no way a pad will stick to my tights, and either way, it will show through. Is it OK to use a tampon on my first period, or should I wait a while? Also, are some brands easier to use than others? My last question's answers said I should start really soon, so should I be prepared?

I think playtex is the best, but that is just name brand preference. I don't use them myself as an older lady I just used pads all my life, but the playtex ones have some for starters and things like that. I don't see why you can't use one your first time, just remember to change it regularly :)

It;'s ok to use tampons. use the smaller ones to start off with as they are easier to use. Carefree is a good brand. So it kotex.

Yes, you should start as soon as you have your first period. You need to experiment to find out what size you need to use that will last for the time period you want it to last. Not all tampons are created equal! Some are for very light days and soak up only a small amount, others are for medium days and some for heavy days. But your heavy days may be very different from your friend's heavy days.
The kind of tampons with shaped, closed ends always worked best for me. And plastic (slicker) worked better than cardboard. (Although I'm not sure that they still make cardboard ones).
I suggest that you start with the smallest tampon available to minimize any discomfort during application. Once you are used to the process, you won't have any trouble.

Yes, it's always good to be prepared. It's better of you don't use a tampon on your first period but, I did and I was fine. I have found the easiest brand to use is Always. I use the plastic applicators instead of cardboard because it's harder to get a good grip on cardboard. But remember, if you are into sports, it could take you a while longer to start you period.

You can use a tampon on your first period, but don't use one until after it's started. Use a thin pantyliner until you actually start, then when it gets a little heavier, start using tampons AND the pantyliners incase of leaks. You won't see a pantyliner through your tights.

Actually, I'm a dancer myself (Jazz/Performance for the last 10 years).

Wearing a pad while dancing isn't bad. I've had my period for over 3 years now, and I still wear pads. I'm guessing you could try, but if you don't feel comfortable, just stick with the pad. It won't stick to your tights. It sticks to your undies. :P

If you're going to need a tampon, use a tampon. It really doesnt matter if it's your first period or not, it's just a personal choice on what to use.
