Ok. I have to create a scrapbook for Beowulf.

Can I just buy a large 3 ring binder or photo album ... use colored paper and put pictures of things related to Beowulf on each page. Like one page setting, one page with pictures of Grendel, one page pictures and versions of herot... etc?

Deals has scrapbook stuff for really cheap. Since this isn't for you, I'd start there and at Dollar Tree. Even though they're the same company, Dollar Tree usually has better stuff. The one on Lemay Ferry near 270 usually has a good selection. I would use a top loading album or a 3 ring binder. Don't put things on both the front and back of the same piece of paper. You're stuck then and can't move pages around.

You can use a glue stick for this kind of assignment. If you put the glue on both pieces it's pretty permanent. If you were making a scrapbook for real, this wouldn't be the best choice.

Do buy a paper cutter. It'll save you tons of time, and make it look so much better than if you try to use a scissors. You can use it a lot of other times too. I even use it to cut coupons. It's just handy to have. Get the 12" one, not the 6" or you'll have to cut with a scissors anyway. Don't waste your money on those fancy scissors. It's hard to cut straight with them and things wind up lopsided. I have a ton of them and never use them.

You can make titles and do the journalling on the computer or in your own handwriting. If you're going to write, it's probably best to write on white scrapbook paper using a calligraphy pen. If you don't know calligraphy, just print and let the pen do the work. One black pen will cost a couple dollars, and really look cool.

WalMart has a lot of inexpensive stuff too. But for something like this, use your imagination...maybe Prince Valiant comics from the Sunday paper could be the background on something?

If you decide you like scrapbooking and want to do it for yourself, you'll want better supplies and other forms of adhesive. If that day ever comes, ask and I'll be glad to get you on the road. I wasted a lot of time and money trying to be cheap. Now I know what lasts and what to splurge on and what to skimp on.

this is a ideal present. i made my sister and her now-husband a writing and he or she enjoyed it. she even have been given a scrapbook from a pal and enjoyed it. this is ideal they're going to be waiting to take a seat down at the same time and pass for the time of the photos. i might provide it to them after the marriage and additionally attempt to grant them some extra pages this type she will upload some herself if she needs.

Sound's like this is an assignment.

A scrapbook in the artistic sense can be any size and shape and made from almost anything. Since this sounds like an assignment I would lean toward the traditional 3 ring binder. Lends well to re-organization. If it is an assignment and you are not finishing it in one setting, I would consider page protectors and do one page, slide it in and then do the other side on another page in case you need to "insert" a page or theme between pages. Also if this is an assignment, journaling will be a must. The journals should be short and to the point. Titles are nice and almost considered monitory in today's environment; Grendel, Grendel's mother, the dragon, the funeral and any other part that catches your fancy.

Another alternative is software. They make scrapbook software and you can create the whole page on the computer and just print it out. I think they run $10-$20 for a basic scrapbook software. Then you have the option of creating it, saving it and changing as you need until you need to turn it in for credit.

This might help you structure the flow of the scrapbook.

Good Luck!

Sure! That is what makes scrap booking so great. It lets you do whatever you want to and use whatever materials and themes you want. If you want a professional scrapbook though, you should go to places like walmart or Michael's and buy scrabooking supplies there. Here is an example of a professional looking scrapbook page http://www.angelpuppy.net/scrapbook12.jpg
I still suggest having fun and doing it however you like.
HAPPY SCRAP BOOKING! :>)

You can do whatever you like. There are no hardset rules with scrapbooking.
Just keep in mind that photo albums are different than scrapbooks. Photo albums generally have a few pockets on each page that are sized to accomodate standard 4x6 pictures. If you want patterned paper and other embellishments you will probably need to buy a scrapbook.
