Hinged was the old way of mounting stamps in the stamp catalogues.

A small tissue paper hinge would be affixed to the back of new, never used stamps and this would leave an unsightly mark on the gum. Collectors don't like that any more, so the hobby has up-graded to clear stamp holders. If the front of the stamp is new-looking, a hinge mark shouldn't matter, except when it's time to resell. A hinge mark can bring an otherwise nice specimen down to an affordable price, or make it almost worthless, depending on the stamp itself. Always use the stamp holders and tongs. Enjoy!
