Yes, because it allows heat to escape from below the earth's surface. If the heat wasn't allowed to escape, the earth would overheat and explode ... say bye-bye.

yes actually....the soil near the volcano will become fertile land and it's good for farmers and this is also the main reason for some people to live near a volcano..especially subsistence farming method..
