I have one semester (spring 2008) left before I graduate with a BA in engineering. I haven't found a job yet, mostly because I'm trying to enter the finance industry and it's completely new to me. Is it a good idea to search for an internship for the summer after I graduate, and work hard to get a full time offer for the fall? OR should I just focus on trying to find a full time position? I'd like JP Morgan for trading... It just seems like the finance industry's full time recruiting has already happened.

I'm not sure that is entirely true. The Big 4 accounting firms have already done their recruiting, but most other companies come out in the Spring. You could look for an internship; the problem is that since many internships require you to get course credit which, if you have graduated, you can't get. In my experience, many students manage to find jobs in the finance industry in the Spring.

That's amazing that you have considered another major. Finance is an industry that is fast paced but quite tricky theses days considering the economic status. But back to your question, I would focus on finding a full time position. Besides, all you need a 4 year degree these days, so I would start right now by trying to find a finance job. I wish you the best.

I knew a lady who worked at JP Morgan and loved it. She was called to active duty, but talked about her company all the time.

You may want to see if you can find a volunteer job before you graduate. It will look good on your resume. It helps to have some experience before hitting the job market full-time.

If that is not possible, since you may have a heavy student load, check the federal government for internships after you graduate. See the Web site provided, and start the application process.

You can search for an internship or a temporary/seasonal position. Most internships only last for three months some last longer. Temporary or seasonal positions may last the same amount of time as an internship but could be longer. You could always see about working in the finance section of a theme park, zoo, or somewhere like that.

If anything, you could always type in 'finance internships' into google.
