not especially, but they MUST be fed every morning, given fresh clean water, and kept in an area with a coop where dogs and cats (and coyotes to whatever) cannot attack them. they will need hay to nest in, and the hay must be changed periodically. also, the waste they produce will ruin a lawn, so keep them in an area where you don't really care what the grass looks like.
and keep them out of the rain so they don't drown by looking up in curiosity.
PLEASE do not adopt any animal without full commitment to its care and upkeep.

No, I have not, but they would be pretty hard. I would just buy my chickens, if I were you. Raising chickens would require you to feed them, and you have to feed them well. Then you have to make sure they are healthy, and then you have to slaughter them. That is pretty gory, and unpleasant. Then you have to clean, and chop them, and then make sure that the chicken is sterile. But growing veggies is much better.

I lived in Africa for 11 years, and our family took care of a few for 8 of those years. Chickens aren't hard to take care of, but that does depend on where you live. We had to worry about thieves, mongooses (or is it mongeese?), the occasional wayward hyena, and brown kites (nasty predatory birds) diving down and abducting chicks. Chickens are pretty docile though, as long as you feed them and give them shelter. Maybe this link will help:

I have not raised chickens personally buy my grandfather did (professionally) and my mother does (as a hobby) They are not super difficult to care for...require feeding a couple times a day and fresh water. Need adequate space to roost in a safe location. Do a little research before committing.

Are they hard to take care of? Next to turkeys, they are probably one of the stupidest animals God ever created. They will cram themselves into corners and suffocate each other, they will drown themselves in the watering trough, they will peck each other to death - quite literally! It really was a relief to chop their heads off and fricasse them.

Yes! No, they aren't hard to take care of at all. They're wonderful.
Try to get black chickens. They're nicer than red chickens.
