My system temperature is 40C, but my cpu temperature is running at 80C! Is 80C too high for a P4?

its too high.
clean out the dust or get a better cooler.

do i look at both core's temperature or 1 core's temperature

it's extremly high, put ur pc in a well vented spot or check the fan of the processor

cooler is always better 80 degrees is getting close to being too hot, pop the cover get a can of compressed air and blow out the fans and vent slots, unplug the power cord first.

Hi. 40C for the case is pretty high and 80C is near the limit of what it can take. Add cooling fans to the case first. Make sure the inside is clean and the filters are not clogged.
