I never had a problem with the theory of Communism, it is really idealistic and quite nice. However, reality intrudes. People like to own things, like their own houses or their own farms, or their own businesses. Under pure Communism none of that could happen. Somewhere there must be a sensible medium, where the people acting thru their government own some assets where its appropriate, and private individuals and corporations own other assets where thats appropriate. Privately owned water systems are not a good idea, publicly owned ones are. Privately owned streets would be such a joke the idea has never even been considered. A private army would be equally silly. Unfortunately there is now a movement toward privately owned prisons and guess what: the prison companies lobby state legislatures for more and harsher laws to build their profits. Private prisons--a horrible idea totally at odds with any concept of freedom. I do believe people have the right to get rich. Thats what capitalism is all about, and the promise of financial reward is what motivates people to bring about progress. Where would the computer industry be without Bill Gates. But the idea that Texas parasites could get ahold of ownership of the California electric supply and then steal billions of dollars is just plain pure evil, a perversion of capitalism. Let that be a warning to the world about unfettered, unregulated capitalism. It needs control just like a nuclear reactor does. Air travel was better when it was regulated. So was banking. So was broadcasting.

It goes against the very nature of humanity, NOBODY is equal. WHy should one person work hard while someone who does less get the same benefits. Where is the motivation to go beyond what is expected?

It doesn't work... they tell you where to work, what your work will be, where you will live, takes all ambition and ability to succeed away - and therefore the economy dies as in USSR. China had to open up, but their workers make 25 cents an hour, can't travel, no freedom of worship or speech.
You like that? Go live in N. Korea, you will see what corruption and tyranny looks like.

Communism is a noble ideal but when it has been implemented in the real world it has invariably been a disaster.

Everyone is not equal in communism. The leaders pay themselves well and give themselves special benefits to live well and have unlimited health care- kinda like the current legislation (since 1992) has done in the USA.

The USA constitution does not guarentee that everyone is equal. Individuals must be responsible for his/her self and seem a productive life that does not infringe on others.

The beauty of freedom is that you do have the freedom to move to a communist country to share in their equality which usually is that everyone, except leaders ane elite associates, is equally poor without access to labor laws, health care and living in a home free of fear.

Personally I believe the US is the closest to communist that we have ever been and selecting our next leader is cruscial to perserve our freedom. Blindly voting for a party at this time is foolish and all voters need to learn more about each candidate and everyone needs to demand promises are not loaded with horrible consequences.

The overall theory of true communism, economic equality of all people, is not in itself considered bad by most people.

However factor in human nature and you corrupted form of Communism that was practiced in the USSR and the PRC. This was really more of a totalitarian oligarchy than actual Marxism.

The bottom line is some people will not work hard if there is no benefit to them for increased productivity, and some people want to be more equal than others.

I have my beliefs and I am not going to be forced to believe something else, just because anyone says I have to.

I was a waitress, and I worked hard, even serving customers that wasn't mine all because their waitress wasn't caring for them. Yet all the tips that night had to be divided equally.

The real sad thing was I was the one fired.

Communism, in theory, has no centralized government so it is not really practical. (Read Marx)

Communism as it exists today is actually just a political party which rules in a single party, authoritarian, socialist state. All authoritarian states must deny basic freedoms to hold power.

Socialism is the closest economic system we have and it works well in Democratic Socialist countries like the Scandinavian countries, France and Switzerland, etc.

because people are not equal. You cannot claim that a person who spends 8 years in higher education deserves the same amount of money as a high-school drop out.

Whenever, and however somebody betters themselves, they should be recognized for it.

Everyone isn't equal never have been and never will be. As for whats wrong with communism, don't you see a huge problem with government deciding just how much you need to keep of the money you worked to earn? Remember the old children's story about the Ant and the Grasshopper ? In this case the Ants are the Conservative Capitalist and the Grasshopper is the Liberal, Socialist, Communist who decides he's not going to work, instead he's going to take the fruits of your labor.
