My husband and I are in the process of selling our house and moving out of town. I'm using this opportunity to purge old and unwanted things, to make the move easier and simplify my life. In going through my stuff, I have found old letters, photos, cards, etc. from ex boyfriends. I hate to throw this away, because I have fond memories of my past (even though I'm very happily married), however I'm not sure how appropriate it is to keep old cards from my exes saying how much they love me or photos of us when we were a couple. Do you think I should throw these things away or just hold on to it for the memories?

I am a newlywed and we went through the same thing. Although I am acquaintances with hubby's ex, I wouldnt' want him keeping cards and letters. I've found them in storage and we look at them together and laugh and then we just toss them. I don't mind keeping the pictures but I certainly wouldn't be framing them next to our wedding photos. They're a part of your past and so long as you don't wallow over what "could have been" (which I dont think you are) then keep them! You were a single person with your own adventures prior to your married life. Good luck with the move and who knows? Maybe you'll run out of space to store them anyway. :)

Put them in storage or give them to your parents to keep.

In our culture, we have to throw out any pictures of our xbfs or any other kind of memorabilia. I still have mine in my scrapbook I made before I met him and he doesn't seem to care, but I found a picture of his old gf in his car and I threw it away for him. :P

are you sure you are happily married? if so what kind of happiness will the memorabilia bring to your relationship now the only thing i see happening is a fight, doubt, mistrust or argument developing when your husband finds them

It is very unappropriate and hurtful for your husband for you to keep them. Get rid of them. You hold the memories in your mind and that is more than enough.

Think of it in reverse. Would you be happy with your husband if you found out that he was hoarding love letters from past girlfriends? If not, you know you need to just let go of the memorabilia. It won't take away the memories, but just be symbolic of the fact that you have moved on with your life.

there are reasons for both it is something only you can decide.
the only reason i can see for keeping them is a badge of courage (or stupidity depending on the one)
