Take it to your Acura dealer. They'll know how to fix it correctly. All Hondas including all Acuras last forever. It shouldn't be a problem.

Your problem isnt with your starter, the problem is your starter solenoid. A faulty starter solenoid can cause the starter to not engage or lose engagement, and overall poor starter performance.

The starter solenoid receives a large electrical current from the car battery and a small electrical current from the ignition switch. When the ignition switch is turned on, a small electrical current is sent to the starter solenoid. This causes the starter solenoid to relay a large electrical current to the starter motor, which in turn sets the starter motor in motion. The starter motor is an electric motor that initiates piston motion in a car's internal combustion engine before it can power itself.

Most newer vehicles have the starter solenoid attached or integrated into the start, unfortunatly the 96 teg has an external solenoid, and it is usually 3x the price of the starter.

Good luck.

There is a tester that will test your battery, alternator, and starter to see which one is the culprit. I'll bet a parts store will have it and test your car for free (they are hoping you'll buy the part from them) Don't take the parts out, just drive the car there and they will connect it to your battery. This will help you avoid throwing parts at the car hoping to eventually get lucky. I do that, too.

it may not be the starter. like he said above, it may be battery issue. isn't there a part in the car that helps keep the battery charged? maybe that part is bad.

"96 is over 11 yrs old and 00 is 7 yrs old. If they last that long, you're doing OK. Time for the boneyard.

Could be your battery is low. If it makes a clicking noise, this is a sign of a low battery.
