I keep getting a pop-up from Adobe Reader to update.

The description says “The Adobe Reader 7.0.9 Update will install Adobe Reader 7.0.9 and provides several important security files. Adobe recommends that all users install this update.”

I don’t know. Is the “several important security files” is for my benefit or if it is for Adobe’s benefit and my detriment?

Does anybody have the answer to this question?

Definitely do the update - there's no harm in it. However, you may want to go a little further, if you OS supports it, and upgrade to 8.1.1 version of Adobe Reader by going to Adobe.com and click on Get Reader.

I don't think it will hurt to do this. Security files usually indicates someone found a bug/security risk/hole in the program. It might be a problem, it might not, but it's usually worth doing the updates.
