Evening is actually short for eve of night or shortly before nightfall But for most people it's usually after dinner. For me it's about 6p.m.

I would put evening as 6pm to 9pm and after that to be late night. Afternoon runs from after lunch (which is about 11-1) to 6 unless you allow rush hour in there.
The exact time will depend on the community. The midwest tends to do everything earlier (including news and TV broadcasts). East coast is later. Some social groups wouldn't think of having dinner before 8pm.

evening I think is like from 5:00 p.m. t0 7:00 p.m. with afternoon coming before and night coming after.I am sure you will get a variety of answers.
