If you are 5 months, and you havent touched a cig, DONT!!! I really wish I could say the same...Im 35 weeks, and have been smoking, and I really get angry at myself for it. So do your baby the best thing you can do, and dont even pick it up. Im not going to tell you its okay, cause its not, but I do smoke, and everything is healthy so far But who is to say that my lil one isnt going to have problems?? I pray everynight that my selfishness isnt resulted on her.

I understand your addiction to nicotine. But you are doing so good and have lasted this long..try and continue not to smoke for your health and your baby's. My mom smoked with me also and all throughout me growing up, there was nothing I could do about all the secondhand smoke from my parents, but now I have a chance to keep my kids healthy and away from it........ It is possible for complications from smoking while pregnant. Being pregnant and becoming a mommy would be your #1 reason to ever quit. If you can't quit for your baby then you probably could never quit. Good Luck

It is really not bad for the baby. The only people who think it is bad are doctors, scientists, good parents and over-all logical people. Who the heck do these people think they are.
In my well researched but little-reasoned opinion, SMOKING WHILE PREGNANT IS GOOD. Here is why:
1) Smoking while pregnant will kill some of the baby's brain cells. But according to evolution theories it should kill the weaker cells thus allowing the strong ones to go forth and multiply
2) Free tanning, you won't a see thru kid with no skin color and no sun tolerance
3) I own some cigarette and beer company stocks; not that I think of it: you should drink too.
4) It should interfere with the child's reproduction system and hopefully not cause future generations to inherit your gene; great as they are
5)Smoking eliminates the side effects of second-hand smoking
6) My mother smoked, and cross my one-chambered heard, hope to die, I turned out OK. My third eye also allows me to look in more than one direction at a time.

the baby gets it's oxygen from the mother, therefore if the mother smokes the baby will get it in his/her system and can also be "hooked" to it by the time its born ...having withdrawels

Don't take the chance. Just because their babies turned out fine, doesn't mean that yours will (because of smoking).
Stay away from second hand smoke too. That is horrible for you and worse for your child. If you expose the baby to smoke at such an early age, can you imagine what it would do to it's lungs?
I am guessing these other babies are prone to illnessess such as ear infections, asthma, bronchitis or phnemonia (sp?) yet.
Quit for your child's health.

People who have never looked into this will be screaming at you with false claims that your baby will be instantly killed, or have a birth weight of 4 lbs if you take one puff. That's not true. It isn't GOOD to smoke when you're pregnant. You know that already, but you should really look this up online at credible websites before you listen to the people who would stone you for even asking. You're not looking for opinions. You're looking for ACTUAL FACTS about what smoking can do to the baby.
Check out the post below me, claiming you can kill your baby or give it brain damage by having sex during pregnancy. PLEASE!
If you want real answers from people who have done REAL research, and not just the alarmists...you'll have to look in places like Discovery health or maybe WebMD.

you already know the answer, but if you need some validation, it is very bad for you and your unborn child. I understand the urge, identify it, realize it for what it is, then move on. Do not ever smoke again.
