Forks were not used until after the middle ages, people used their knives to cut the food, and then either used their hands, or the knife to pick up the food. Can you imagine the mess when they were finished?

If forks and spoons weren't invented we'd probably be used to using our hands to eat. So I'd probably just do that and use my hands rather than a teeny toothpick.
