Yes, NASA is funded by taxpayer dollars.

There have been a number of scientific spin-offs that have benefited all of mankind--not just Americans.

To name a few:
Composite materials used for everything from building-to-automobile construction.

Advancements in computer technology

GPS navigation

Pacemakers

Alternative energy research and use

Oh and my favorite: Tang

NASA is paid for with American tax dollars, and perhaps some private donations. A lot of modern technologies are a result of the space program. Also, as the worldwide population continues to boom, I believe the future of human prosperity will be very dependent on colonizing space. The earth is only so big, after all.

The list of technological and medical advancements derived from the space program runs to many pages long. Just LISTING them! This is easily one of the most successful and fruitful government programs in history.

Have you ever used a microcomputer (PC or Mac)? That is one of the benefits. How about miniature communications devices? There is another. I can list about half the stuff in your house if you aren't convinced.
