If its a manual transmission than that Means that your shift sync rose are bad this is from shifting the car with out using the clutch IE drag racing or It could be the clutch is not fully disengaged from the fly wheel which would also make it very hard to shift. If its an automatic than you need to have the shift linkage adjusted or you may need to have the tranny repaired or rebuilt.

agreed it's the clutch, be sure when you take it to a shop to have it changed they resurface the flywheel at that time

standard trans? if so then the clutch is not fully releasing or the clutch plate is warped or the pilot bushing is binding.

The clutch is gone if you have a stick shift manual transmission.
