I've seen many questions regarding Asians Americans...so Im just wondering what do you mean when you call a person Asian-American like korean-american,chinese-american etc...

Does it mean that one of your parents are american and the other asian?

It is a stupid 'politically correct' term which is essentially meaningless, like "African American", which is another idiotic and dumb term invented by people who are too scared to call a spade a spade.

The best example of the utter stupidity of the term "African American" was related in a story about an American journalist in Africa writing a story in which he referred to black Africans by the moronic term "African American Africans". it seems the human capacity for stupidity is limitless.

i always assumed it was an ethnically asian person who was born and raised in an american environment.

i suppose the term is pretty ambiguous, not like American Born Chinese...but then again, thats pretty suss too cause it implies you're more chinese than american

good question!

Ethnicity, for the most part.

They are Americans of Asian decent. Meaning they are of Asian lineage and now call America their home.

PS-I have never really understood why we don't consider Russian-Americans, Pakistani-Americans, etc..-- to be Asian-Americans; they come from Asia, too.

It means that you are an Asian who is an American citizen.

Actually for Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, and a few others Oriental American may be more appropriate.

It the person was not a citizen they would just be Asian, Oriental, or their nationality.
