i cant seem to tell where it is coming from but it definitely needs fixed it makes the car smell (its my 18 yr old daughters car) and im sure it will make it rust out

sounds like the piller drain is pluged up ,water can enter from the heater a/c box if the drain holes are pluged up. you will need to remove the wiper blades and plastic covering to gain access to open the drain holes on the corners of the piller.
you can do this test before and after repair by using a garden hose over the windshield and look for proper drainage

Usually it's a plenum seal or windshield leak....only way to tell for sure is have a bodyshop or service dept do a leak test on it where they remove inner trim panels and spray water on the car while someone inside the car checks for the leaks. Call around to various shops or dealers to see if they offer this service and have experience with your car model...some cars have common points of leaks.

are you sure that it leaks only when it rains? try it when it is not raining. If it is on the passenger side it could be you heater core.
