guitar hero 3 freezes on ps2?

we've had the game for quite a few months and in the begining it would say "disc read error". so i cleaned the inside. after doing so, the game worked fine. now, the game would take about 5-7 minutes loading and the screen constantly freezes. is this a ps2 problem or a game problem?

also happens to the 80;s encore. the song freezes and continues. what can i do?

How old is your system? It might be going bad! I received a PS2 system for thanksgiving and GH2 works fine with no freezing
