Could be strep throat, tonsillitis, the beginnings of mononucleosis, the beginnings of meningitis, a bad head cold... really, many things.
If your head and throat hurt that bad, get yourself to a doctor to try to find out what you have. If it's an infection, chances are it won't get better on it's own. Don't wait for it to get better, because while you're waiting for it to get better, it may get worse. Since it can be anything from a simple head cold to something as serious as meningitis, it's worth it to get checked out.
Take care of yourself and see a doctor... and in the meantime, try hot stuff instead of cold stuff for your throat and head - hot tea, hot soup, etc.
Best wishes...

Tonsillitis. Go see your doctor for some antibiotics. Also, keep hydrated and avoid dairy things like milk and yoghurt, as they can make you flehmy and cause a cough. Ice cream is good though.

Do you have a fever? Could be the flu. White spots on your tonsils? Strep throat. If you have spots on your tonsils you should see a doctor. Strep can be dangerous if not treated with antibiotics. Please be sure to drink plenty of fluids either way. Don't need to get dehydrated.

Sore throats can be due to acute tonsillitis, common colds, the flu, infection. such as a strep throat. Your poor appetite and intake of cold stuffs to soothe the sore throat strongly suggest an acute tonsillitis. See the doctor for a round of antibiotics.

What causes a sore throat?

A sore throat can have many causes including:

Common viruses, and even the viruses that cause mononucleosis (mono) and the flu, can cause a sore throat. Some viruses can also produce blisters in the mouth and throat ("aphthous stomatitis").
Breathing through the mouth can produce throat dryness and soreness.
Sinus drainage (post nasal drip) may cause a sore throat.
A sore throat can also be caused by bacteria. The two most common bacteria to cause a sore throat are Streptococcus (which causes strep throat) and Arcanobacterium haemolyticum. Arcanobacterium causes sore throats mainly in young adults and is sometimes associated with a fine red rash.
Sore throat appearing after treatment with antibiotics, chemotherapy, or other immune-compromising medications may be due to Candida, commonly known as "thrush."
A sore throat lasting for more than two weeks can be a sign of a serious illness, such as throat cancer or AIDS.
