I have a 2000 mazda 626 it still starts and if i start it in a gear it will drive in that gear. I was thinking maybe its a spring problem because when i pull it about halfway up the spring pulls it back up.

OK your problem sounds like the master cylinder for your clutch or the "slave" cylinder that actually disengages the clutch. your car has a hydraulic clutch mechanism ...this is very much like the brake system , actually exactly the same principal . If you look on the firewall of your engine compartment you will see the master cylinder for the clutch it will be smaller and lower than the brake master cylinder, it will have a cap you can remove to add fluid to it just like a brake master cylinder has...(yes it will use brake fluid just like brakes ) there is a line going from this to the slave cylinder ( small hydraulic cylinder ) on the bellhousing which is where your clutch is actually located . the cylinder has a shaft that disengages the clutch when you push the peddle down. If there is a bad master or slave cylinder OR a hole in the line you will lose your "peddle" ( won't come up) and won't be able to disengage the clutch. Good luck

You probably have a clutch slave cylinder with a blown seal. There's also a chance that the clutch master cylinder went out. Check for low or no fluid in the clutch master cylinder reservoir. Some vehicles use the same reservoir as the brake system so check the brake fluid if there is no separate reservoir for the clutch master cylinder. You will have to fix the leak and bleed the air from the system, Time for a mechanic!

Clutch cable is shredded on the pedal end or the clutch end. Tighten either end if loose and get thyself to the clutch guy or the parts place and get a new cable.

Your clutch master cylinder is probably bad. Check the fluid first. It may be empty. Filling it may fix the symptom temporarily, but there is likely a reason why the fluid level was low. You likely will need to replace the master cylinder.
