Your scientific calculator can always be used, but it is best to learn the basic rules of exponents.

Any real number raised to the power zero is equal to one.
Any real number raised to the power one equals the number itself, nothing changes!

Check for yourself with your SCIENTIFIC calculator. If you don't have a calculator, there is one on your computer.

you will see a key that shows [x^y]
If you wanted to enter 2 to the 30 power which looks like
2^30 , do the following on your calculator:
[2] [x^y] [30] [ENTER] = I'll let you figure it out! It is a huge number, prolly in the millions!!!

a) Each number with exponent 1 is like the same number:
0^1 = 0 4^1 =4 ... and so on.

b) Each number with exponent 0, except zero, is like 1

2^0 = 1 3^0 = 1

c) 0 with exponente 0 is not a number... 0^0 does not exist as a number. In the study of limit of a function, 0^0 represent a indetermination, not necessary a number.
