People sometimes are having health problems or emotional problems and they try to self medicate. Sometimes people are shallow and they think they are bored and this is why they start. Others fall prey to peer pressure. Some people are curious. The drugs do get hold of the body but mostly they get into the psychology of the person. When quitting cigarettes they say the drugs leaves your system after 3 days and that should be the end of the withdrawals but that is just the beginning. You could be a month into the quit and feel just as strong of an urge as the first day. Also urges only last a few seconds or a few minutes but if you ask someone how long there urge was they might say half the day. Some harder drugs are very physically addictive and the person can even die from quitting too fast. I believe there are also spiritual factors involved in drugs because they are a type of bondage and they can become all consuming. There are demons with this assignment of bondage and drugs are the idol they offer . Turning to God for peace is better but sometimes we don't want to wait and sometimes God does not give us everything right away. Some people don't believe in God,they could try healthy ways to feel better also but they want something fast but it does not last and their problem s turn into drugs on top of their other problems.Getting educated about the drugs can help in the fight to freedom.

an addiction is an addiction.
weither it be drugs, ciggarettes, shopping, etc..
its something that makes us feel good..an escape from reality (stresses of the world)
haha who would want to give up an escape???
if it makes you feel good and makes you forget about all thats going on of course its going to be hard not to have it anymore

I never had problems with drugs with my boys thank God.
When my eldest was caught smoking at school I caned him and he thanks me for that today - nicotine is *more* addictive than heroin!
His brothers learnt the lesson by it too as the same would have happened to them if they had tried.
I may be criticised for that today but I did the right thing by him and he appreciates it and so do they all.
Edit : Well the thumbs downs are all very well but I would have done *anything* to stop my boys from getting into the Hell that is drugs (including cigarette smoking and the risk of lung cancer, strokes and so on).A quick short, sharp caning solved that and I am *proud* of what I did and so are my boys.

For the same reason I still smoke, it is a physical addiction. Once the body gets used to a foreign substance(drug) it does not produce the natural substance that does the same thing in our body, hence the cramps, sweating and throwing up. I don't care how strong willed you are when you know it is going to cause such severe problems you are going to be reluctant to put yourself through it.

many reasons...mostly low points in our lives...your mind thinks they need the drug to go on and it does take over...deep soul searching would be a good start...good luck in the New Year!

Becasue they do not always get a hold of your body and they are not always difficult to give up.
casual use does not become addicitve... constant use and abuse is where the problems incur
Drugs is escapism, experiencing new things .. there are thousands of reasons why people do them .. some people are born into drug families and know nothing else..

I can honestly say with hand on heart that I have never done drugs so haven't had the problem of giving them up, but I have no idea why people want to waste their life doing drugs.
