I was extremely shy when I was in school. When I was 17, I went to college & made a concious choice to be more outgoing. I wish I had done it sooner. This is what I did:
-Start initiating conversations.
-Ask questions in class & make comments when appropriate (even if it is an obvious one). The main point is not gathering information, but overcoming a fear of speaking out.
-Volunteer for anything that makes you have to talk to people.
-Basically, speak out every chance you get.
-And, of course, if it is possible, take acting classes @ your school, the YMCA, or anywhere else that offers them.

You can overcome shyness. I know because I have done it. I still get nervous in front of crowds if I don't psych myself up for it.

Think about it - everyone there will be in the same boat as you, no acting experience, shy, nervous, etc. I would think it would be easier if you didn't know anyone there because you aren't worried about messing up in front of your friends Go to Stagecoach and take a class and see how it goes. The only way you are going to get over your shyness is to confront it and force yourself to perform in front of others. Because if you can't get to a point where you are comfortable performing in front of other people at your same experience level, you'll never make it in film or television around a group of strangers, many of whom will have been working in film or television for years So get out there and show what you can do at Stagecoadh

Many actors and rock stars are shy, but it's totally different when you get on stage. Take a deep breath and go for it!
