It is odd shaped like a kidney. Trans parent for the most part but has a glaze on the outside.

Contact your nearest lapidary group by typing in a search engine the word lapidary and your city name. Get their advice. Obsidian is very hard and you may not be able to take a uniform amount off all over.

Whoa there - you must have quite a gem! What I usually find is that the obsidian coloring is very intense so I usually use vinegar and egg yolk to bring out the shades. I wheel my 50 pounder out of the garage every half a year on my trailer. The inside of a cat's skin is the softest material you can get to rub it down. Obviously, that's not so easy to come by these days, so you can substitute it with an ordinary fox tail.

I think you'll need an industrial tumbler for that.
