One way is that, with almost every able-bodied man under forty (and some over) away, women entered the work force in large numbers and proved their ability to do what had traditionally been thought of as men's jobs. Another is that service people returned home with a broader picture of the world; a third is that the Gi Bill made college education available to far more people than had been able to attend in the past.

Rubber so they invented syntec runner. We had to have Gas Masks, in case the Japes attacked us. I used to watch towards the RR line, a mile away in case the Japes invaded us, while I was out playing everyday. Also all my Aunts and Uncles all grew victory gardens, we lived on a 1/4 section farm so we had all the food we could grow. :)
