Best place to ask would be to walk in and talk to someone. They might start you at a counter position, or if you can really "sell" yourself someone might take you under wing and train you from the start. But either way- best info will be direct from the source.
Good luck to you!

Go to a tech school for a couple years. When you graduate they usually have tool dealers that sell to you at a discount. Then talk to a service manager at the dealer and see if they have an apprentice program. They may start you as a lube person to get you familiar with the vehicles. Remember you're at the bottom of the ladder and it takes time and hard work to become a master tech. Go for your ASE tests every year and they might give you a raise and more responsibilities as you learn the tricks of the trade.

Keep an eye on your local news paper. In Indianapolis, IN. there are a couple of new car dealers that will train people that they think will be a good asset to there company. If not, start out with a used car dealer like Carmax. Do do JD by rider or others like them. The key is to get sales experience. If you start with a used car dealer, make sure they sell quality used cars.

Call the collection agency and the county that will receive a payment have them both type out a letter and fax it to you or email it to you stating what happened and everything is settled and it was a simple misunderstanding and give that to the future employer.

Apply in person. There's not much the dealer will pay you, its all your own time and effort for the commission you can command.
Its like going fishing, not hard, because people do buy, not easy, because it is not predictable.
