Well Colgate University sent me a letter, it is from the DEAN OF ADMISSIONS and it says thank you for applying etc, then it says they hope I will visit, even though it is 4 hours up North, and then it is signed by the Dean Of Admissions himself, not a computer generated signature, then next to it he wrote thank you for exploring colgate William! This letter was inside a thick brochure they sent me, just as a side note.

Does this mean something important, such as acceptance??!!??! I was pretty happy that I got this, please dont burst my bubble guys!!! But do tell me what you think !!!!

It is something sent to all applicants. It is a marketing tool. It is meant to leave a good impression, so that that the students who do get accepted will actually come. If they accept you, the lette will be very clear.

Take advantage of the invitation to visit -- making sure that you let them know that you are visiting & ask if you can speak to someone in admissions.

while i strengthen right into a senior in severe college I have been given a set of letters from faculties. They relatively merely % you to appreciate your strategies and circulate to that faculty (and get your cash). you will desire to evaluate travelling. in the journey that your GPA isnt stable adequate to get into those particular colleges then attempt going to a community college first to get your GPA up!

I got quite a few personal letters from colleges when I was applying (or shopping around, so to speak). I even got a Christmas card with a few sentences wishing me a merry christmas from the dean of Sweet Briar (a private university).

No, this is not an acceptance letter. This is what is known as an acknowledgement of receipt of your application, except that they want to make sure that whichever people they eventually do decide to accept feel good about them, so they are sending a letter like this to everyone who applied.

It isn't bad - it doesn't mean that they will reject you. They may very well, in fact, accept you. But this particular letter is not a sign of anything one way or the other.

Your letter means absolutely nothing.

I am certain that most if not all of their applicants get this same package. Like Shars said, this is essentially just marketing that will pay off for the school when the time comes for converting their admitted students into students who accept the offer of admission.

Did you apply to Colgate regular decision? If so you won't be hearing from them for another few months (check the website for deadlines.)

My guess is that this is simply a letter/mailing designed to maintain your interest in the school, to encourage you to visit while your application is pending (ie they hope you'll pick them if they pick you.)

An acceptance would certainly spell that out, as in "Congratulations, we are delighted to offer you a place at Colgate for the class of 2012."

If you have any doubts still, definitely, contact the school on Wednesday.

Unless it specifically states that you were accepted, then it is not an acceptance letter.

Many schools don't issue acceptance letters for a couple of months, so don't be alarmed that you are not accepted yet.

Schools want students that are accepted to actually choose the school. They try to advertise their school to potential students to try to get them to choose the school if they do get accepted.

Good luck!

An acceptance letter will usually start of by saying congratulations you have been accepted..... If not then call the University to clarify your enrollment status. Good Luck! College is the best time of your life!
