Congrats on getting into college first of all.
I think you will have to live in a dorm though. Unless there is campus approved housing like at the university where I'll be going. Check their website to make sure. Maybe you're allowed to live off-campus or maybe you're not even an undergraduate.

BC Eagles!! Excellent!! if you can stay in campus is better!! but look into: Chestnut Hill, Brighton, Allston, Brookline, Fenway - these towns are accessible to public transportation and take you to campus. If you have a car you may want to stay in other neighborhoods such as Jamaica Plain, Hyde Park, Roslindale or West Roxbury (these are excellent quiet neighborhoods) You have chosen an excellent campus and there is so much to do on your spare time that you won't regret choosing BC or in fact any other college in Boston. Best wishes and Congratulations!!

yeahh, if you don't have to stay in the dorm first year, look for places in hyde park, roslindale, lower mills in dorchester, neponset, or if you dont mind an extra 5 minutes of travel, try milton although its a little more pricey but it's all the better, its literally a few yards from boston.
welcome to boston =)

I would say look very close to school. So you can walk, or bike. There are buses and the T , but these cost money and are terribly crowded at times, you can't sit down and there are weird people on board. Plus you have to wait outside in the weather for these vehicles to arrive. Not so fun. Spend the money to live close. Steve Nickse

I graduated from Boston College in 1980. I never got on-campus housing and lived in an unheated attic of a home on Waban Hill Road in Chestnut Hill my first year (where Joe Perry from Aerosmith was our next door neighbor) and in Brighton on Lane Park directly behind the Cardinal's residence for the next three years.
If you get the chance, take on-campus housing for at least one year if not two. That will give you a chance to explore the area for yourself and figure out where you might like to live off-campus. (It also gives you a chnace to find a compatible roommate unless you plan to live alone.)
Chestnut Hill is very nice and just minutes from campus, but it is solidly residential and quiet. You will not be hosting any wild parties in Chestnut Hill. Allston and Brighton are a little further away, but not by much. It's not as suburban as Newton, but it's not as urban as downtown Boston.
If you have money to burn and aren't inclined to spend your free time on campus, then you can look at the Back Bay, which is near Kenmore Square, home of the 2007 World Champion Boston Red Sox. You should also consider the South End, which is a very tony section of tone, and the Symphony Hall area.
If you wanted the best of both worlds, then you would rent an apartment in Cambridge near Harvard or MIT. This would expose you to a different student culture than what you will find at BC or BU or NU, which are all very similar. Plus, it would place you closer to the world famous Comedy Studio at the Hong Kong restaurant near Harvard Square. (It isn't world famous, but it features very good to great comedy every night of the week, and lots of very good comics go to work on new material and pull a new act together. It is not to be missed!)
My nephew, who is from East Norwalk, Connecticut, has not yet heard from BC. His sister got in two years ago, but she decided to go to Wellesley College instead. He's hoping to go to NYU for business or BC for business, and he has been accepted to Fordham, so at least he'll have some place to go next year.
Have fun next year. Try to get football tickets if you can. BC should have one of the better defenses in the country next year, maybe even a top ten defense.
Happy New Year, and good luck at BC.
