I've been building a computer and i'm pretty broke but ive spent about 500$ already. I have my mother board, processor, processor fan, and power supply. I'm missing a case, a hard drive and RAM. When i was putting my processor and fan together i accidently got thermal grease on the processor pins (about 3) on the corner. I wiped the grease off with a rag and you cant notice it but i'm worried i might've screwed up the processor and i can't get a refund. It's a Socket 775 Intel Core 2 Extreme. I put the peices i have together and started it and it started which means the processor must be working. I put the hard drive from this computer in it and started it and the hard drive started so i figured it must be working, plus i used the start button from my dell, and when the processor is fried it usually gives me an orange light but i got the green one instead. I'm pretty sure it's fine but what do you think?

If the thermal grease was not Arctic Silver 5, nothing to worry, they are mostly non-conductive silicone grease. However, AS5 is electrically conductive and could potentially short those 3 pins.

Try a bare set up with at least one stick of RAM. Even w/out HDD, FDD and CD/DVD, PC should beep once, display POST and be able to display BIOS menu.

can you apply oficlean, i don't know how you name it ther, but is a solution of a cold florurocarbon solution that removes static from you electronic devices, apply it then wipe it with a soft brush, so you can be sure there will not be overheating on those pins
