no if you wash on new years day you wash someone away.

Well there are so many new years superstitions that everyone follows... personally i do washing on new years day.
i know of a family that believe that if a red-head enters their house before anyone else, that they will have bad luck for the whole year. the poor boy is sent outside at midnight and not allowed in until someone with dark hair enters before him. i think thats just a bit over the top!

I have been washing clothes for years on new year's day.
If you think you will have bad luck, throw in a couple black eye peas--they are supposed to be good luck on new year's day.

So who made up that idea? New Years Day is just any other day, and has no real meaning as it was just a date chosen to being counting annual periods. Could just as well have been, and probably have made more sense to start it on the shortest day of the year, or the longest. So any bull about bad luck is just bull.

does that mean hanging it out too,? I've just washed some bedding and can't hang it out tonight with all the fireworks going off.

You are suppose to wash someones life away. I dont know where it came from but good question. (Sorry i cant give you a star this answer will make me a level 2 i think) I am going to look it up though. Happy New Year xx
Have just had a look on internet nothing about where it came from but from what i have seen it is better to sit and not do anything as nothing is allowed. Bit scary really dont think i will get out of bed.
No you are not suppose to hang out the washing nothing is suppose to leave the house.
If we abided by all the New Years Day superstitions we would be nervous wrecks. xxx

it's supposedly bad luck... but , no i don't do any washing on new years day.. i class it as christmas day without the pressies...we just have a big relax..
