a guy told me that 1 and 1 and 1 equals 1; 1 and 1 and 1 equals 3; and 1 and 1 and 1 equals 7. 1*1*1=1; 1+1+1=3; how does 1 and 1 and 1 equal 7?

He was using the binary system.

Ask him how 1 and 1 and 1 make 584

That might get him really confused!

He must be thinking in binary (base-2)

111 (base 2) is equivalent to 2^2 + 2^1 + 2^0 = 4 + 2 + 1 = 7
