This one's interesting...
My belief is: Discrimination is Discrimination. It was wrong to discriminate against Blacks, but it's just a wrong to discriminate against Whites. Two wrongs do not make a right.
Also, I think it's racist to believe that Blacks need a handout from the White Man to get anywhere in this world. In this country, hard work is king. Color is just flavoring. Affirmitave action is like saying to Blacks that they can't do as good as Whites, and so they need some help. Bull.
To break it down, the US has had two kinds of racism. First is racism from, or endorsed by, the government. Jim Crow laws anyone? The second comes from the hearts of people. The first kind of racism has been more or less completely eliminated, except that it's now being expanded (Affirmative Action). The second source of racism is more difficult, and NO law can change the heart of a bigot. perhaps a kind hand could, but asking the Government to fix bigots is like passing a law saying the sun will shine 24 hours a day... Fortunately, each generation that comes next seems to be more tolerant. The bigots are dying off.
Sharpton is simply a pot stirrer. Creating anger in his race has created his position. He's a better Black leader than, say a Klansman, but not by much.

I would say that "reverse racism" implies that the EXPECTED racist is the one being the victim of racism. EX: When the younger generation of blacks in our country feel it is acceptable for them to use the "N" word. I would call this reverse racism bc it is NOT pc (politically correct) for that word to be used by non-blacks, but they use it anyway to one-another. Even though the word is turned from derogatory into neutral, I still would say that its a negative word in general.

Joe...
"Such liberal policies brought down the Roman Empire in 410 AD. It can and will happen again..."
Now that statement has to be the all-time crowning jewel of stupidity.
Rome fell because it was liberal? Absolutely not.
It fell because it tried to conquer everything in sight and spread its military too thin...
NeoCons want to conquer every oil-producing country in sight and are spreading the military thin...
HHHmmmmm.....

It is racism and oppression at it's finest! How much worse can you put a man down by literally stating, with affirmative action and "entitlements", that he is not smart enough or good enough to make it on his own?
This great country is a melting pot of different culture, races and languages, that have come together as one, Americans, to continue this great nation. No one is an American't!
We are all people in the same boat and no man, woman or child should be treated any different than their neighbor.
This is truly one of my pet peeves. Judge a man by who he is and his content, not by his skin color. Jackson and Sharpton would not have a job without promoting racism!
I read where a guy wants Universal health care. Now why would you want the government to be in charge of controlling your health, or any part of your life? That is socialism! The myth is poor people do not get health care. I can assure you that they do! We pay plenty for Medicaid.
I feel that we should all speak one language in the market place, or business. It is very oppressing to not be able to communicate either.
Anyway, Have a very Happy New Year!

Absolutely NO!!! But I think affirmative action has become a band aid solution to this racist country. The problem is much deeper than solving it with affirmative action and quotas. The fact remains that black communities and other communities that suffer from alot of poverty receive less money for education, have the worst education system within those communities and have alot less access to resources. If those issues would be solved there wouldn't be a need for affirmative action. Issues of equality and equality in a good quality education must be met head on from the beginning of a child's life and the kind of care and education they receive from the time they are born, not after they graduate from a lousy high school in a lousy impoverished school district to only be a number to be allowed into college just because they have a competitive disadvantage. Equality starts from the beginning not at the end. This isn't preferential treatment, this is called equality access to quality education just like what the majority of white people get in their communities. This should be true for getting health care as well. And, when it comes to healthcare, everyone is at risk except the rich who can afford to pay for it out of their own pocket. No one should have to suffer from a horrible disease just because they can't afford insurance or the hospital bill. We are all human and all need access to health care to survive.

I think we should have affirmative action until the fading generation that was around when there was segregation has past.
