she came to me and told me that her underwear had blood on it. My wife isnt here yet and wont be returning untill later tonight. But i found this weird because she's only 9, so i called the doctors and the first thing he asked was if she was over weight. and i told him no. and he told me it was young but it's still ok.

Im confused on what to do untill my wife gets home.
I called her a few times but that was before my daughter told me, and my wife's been busy lately.
I'll try again later but for now what should i do?

awww. :)
ok first
go to your wife's stash of items..(you know what i mean) and find some pads. There should be some..
Take it and tell her how to put it on. You can just get her a new pair of underwear and stick it on them and give it to her. Please dont panic. If you're paniced then she will to. *Just act like you know what your doing* :]
Tell her it's ok and there's nothing wrong with it. Hot tea works best. If she asks you questions when you explain to her what is happening answer them to your best ability. NO WORRIES.
I feel bad for kids that start there periods that early, but if you help her through her first one she'll get the hang of it. Dont give her tampons, thats a whole nother story. When you get a chance to speak with your wife, give your daughter the phone, maybe she'll be driving home and they can both talk about it.

If she says her stomach hurts let her lay down, like someone else said, treat her like its her own day. You dont have to talk about it so much if she doesnt say anything much about it. Let her talk to her mom when she gets home. If she has older sisters, let her talk to them. Dont freak out. If youre wife is getting home later today, im guessing its not hours away. Just let her know she has to keep clean during these days. It's going to be alot to keep up with for her, but help her, and check in on her.

I hoped i helped

Well Dad, help her the best that you can. But you're right, it is very young, and puts her at higher risk for breast cancer, among other things.

Make sure she is not eating any soy products. Soy is full of phytoestrogens, and can alter her hormonal makeup.

Also, you might consider switching to organic meat. The hormones given to animals could be affecting her as well.

For more nutrition information, read the book Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon. It is a cookbook as well. Also, get in touch with the Weston A Price foundation (it's a .org).

It is more than possible that the foods she is eating may have brought on this early menarche.

Good luck, dad.

First step, Breathe. I know it's shocking for a dad to have to deal with this kind of stuff, but don't stress out over it. :)
Second, don't make her feel uncomfortable by making her feel strange. Make sure she realizes that it's completely normal, and there's nothing wrong with it. 9 is becoming more and more an average age for girls to start their periods. I was. :)
Third, give her a pad, tell her to put it in her underwear (show her how the paper comes off the back and that she puts the sticky in her underwear.) and to get some clean ones. DO NOT give her a tampon. Let mom deal with 'tampons' when the time comes. For now, she doesn't need tampons, that should be something she can decide for herself when she gets a bit older. Take her to the store, and let her pick out the kind that she wants to use. Make sure she gets Regular or Super abosrbancy, but let her pick the color, and the brand. Some girls (Me, for example) have their strongest periods the younger they are. Tell her that she should check her pad every 2 or 3 hours, until she gets used to the way her body feels. And that if she bleeds in her bed, it's ok. Tell her that it's ok to put a bath towel in the bed before she goes to sleep, and to wear older pajamas, just in case.
Most importantly, give her a big hug, and reassure her that there's nothing wrong with her, and that it's a completely normal thing for her to be going thru. :) Good luck, email if you need to. :)

what a shame she is so young to be going through this. But all she needs is to know this is normal. Try talking to her about it dont panic as this will make her panic. Let her know that it happens to all girls at some stage in there lives. Give her a sanitry towel and just tell her that if she wants to talk about it your there for her. good luck. hope all goes well.

For God sakes man get her some kind of pad or Tampax. It is not like you never heard about it before. She needs something until the wife gets home. Nine years is not to young to start a period. It has happened many times before. Kids are starting younger these days. You know where the wife keeps her stuff, so the girl something and explain to her how to use it. Are you a man or what.

What should you do?

Look through your wife's bathroom and find pads or go by some.

"Most girls will have their first period between the ages of 11 and 14. But some girls will start as early as 8, whilst others may be as late as 17." No need to worry.

You need to get a small pad, show her how to place it in her underwear and then explain what's happening to her. My cousin started her period at 9 as well. Your doc is probably asking if she's overweight because early periods and weight issues are signs of PCOS, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. If she's not overweight then your doc is probably right. I imagine your daughter is scared though so explain this to her, tell her about how it's normal for all girls and it means she's growing up and make a BIG DEAL and celebrate her special day with her! She's just young enough that she probably won't be horribly embarrassed the way an older child would be. Poor dad, hang in there until mom gets home!

Just reassure her that it is normal and that every girl has the same thing happen to them. With all the un natural stuff going into our meats, vegetables, fruit, etc....its pretty normal now a days for girls to be younger and younger when they start there periods. I would go to the store and get her some pads until your wife gets home.
