Extremely shy with people, never approaches others. Hard to make friends, rude with friends, but doesn't think it's rude. As a younger kid, HATED hugs so much, but after a while, became more and more accustomed to hugging people, and now hugs too much. Friends and others describe as weird, awkward, but a "genius." Does not like wearing certain clothes, or coats over sweaters or over long-sleeved shirts beause it doesn't "feel" right. Talks either extremely softly, or too loudly. Really hates other people touching her. Never goes to parties, or hangs out with others, not even best friends. Hard to see if people are flirting with her. Does not know sarcasm of people outside of family and friends.. Is this Asperger's or something else?

Everyone is different, but my cousin has it. I think the most obvious symptom for him is that he does't interact with other people very well and he had a hard time in school. He was held back 3 times in school. He is really good at a lot of things, and then bad at others.. for example he got a job at a grocery store and walked out because he was too embarrased that he didn't understand how to stock shelves after they trained him but he is also a really talented musician in a popular local band. I would suggest you ask your friend to tell you about hers specifically as she would probably be happy to share and have you understand. Here are some symptoms listed by the mayoclinic: Engaging in one-sided, long-winded conversations, without noticing if the listener is listening or trying to change the subject Displaying unusual nonverbal communication, such as lack of eye contact, few facial expressions, or awkward body postures and gestures Showing an intense obsession with one or two specific, narrow subjects, such as baseball statistics, train schedules, weather or snakes Appearing not to understand, empathize with or be sensitive to others' feelings Having a hard time "reading" other people or understanding humor Speaking in a voice that is monotonous, rigid or unusually fast Moving clumsily, with poor coordination Having an odd posture or a rigid gait

It sounds like Asperger's...I knew someone with Asperger's though, and she was not shy at all...She would get in fights, had a hard time making friends, and was very weird and rude to tell the truth. The part of describing whoever you are talking about makes it sound like Asperger's as most people with autism have a genius skill. If this person has a hard time understanding people's emotions, then he or she may be Asperger's. the girl I knew who was Asperger's couldn't even tell that she annoyed the hell out of me. She was clingy, Pushy, Manipulative and she couldn't even tell she got on my last nerve! That's Asperger's.

It doesn't sound like it. I have a nephew with it and he's very smart but can't seem to break out of his own little world for very long. He's obsessed with the number 7....won't go to bed until he has his foam rubber # 7.

Sounds like it, but you need to go to a Dr for a diagnosis.
