I have about 50 acres of land in Louisiana. A person on a neighboring piece of land about 400 yards over is having a well put in place on his land. I'm almost positive that there is oil and gas on my property as well. Testing has shown oil to be throughout the area. It follows a path once called the Tuscaloosa Trend. What is the best route I can take to have a well set up on my property to allow drilling?

Just remember, who can stay in a legal battle longer? You or an oil company?

Seek out a lawyer that is versed in this area, if oil is under your property and you own the mineral rights, ask to see the model developed of where the accessible oil is they have to give this to you via the Freedom of Information Act, if it is under your property, talk to them, and seek legal advice.

You have to convince an oil drilling company to take a chance on your property. Maybe it is easier to drill on your neighbors land. Also, income from oil wells is based on quarter sections (40 sq acres) as shown on a plat map.

Oil companies drilled at least 20 wells in and around my town. They ripped a lot of people off in my opinion. Legally, they don't have to drill straight down.

I understand your concerns since drilling a well is like taking a straw and sucking out of a bowl. Good luck.
