Real city destinations like London are good every time of the year.
I have been in London once from just after Christmas till the 14 of January. It was a very cold winter but in town it was no problem. It was so cold and snowy that there was no transport at all in all of England except the south coast, and with difficulties there, in London live went on as usual.
All museums are open year round and so are almost all sights.
It will be colder in winter but it is much better than the surrounding countryside where most touristy things will be closed for the winter.
Something like that also happens in Summer, yes the towns will be even more crowded and expensive in summer, but still, they are there and welcoming tourists.
I agree that March/June and September/November are better times, but take whatever time you can.

the spring and autumn are the best time to visit any major international city. in the summertime these cities get jammed with tourists and travel/hotel prices go up. in winter its cold and you have the holidays to deal with - not to mention the risk of having your flight get cancelled by weather. in the spring or autumn, prices are better and the people you meet generally live there so you have a much better chance of getting a proper feel of the city. the weather isnt always as nice as the summer. but if its nice weather you want to enjoy, you should be off to a tropical island, not a city like london.
