Ugh -- get ready for the unpopular answer. I don't think it's cool to be racist or a bigot, which is what a person is that truly believes the stereotypes is (watch "All in the Family", Archie's a bigot). Believe me I'm the farthest thing from racist, but this "Politcally Correct" thing that our society is on is getting on my damn nerves. We are raising our children to be thin-skinned pussees that can't take a joke. I can tell a joker from an ignorant a--hole. If we ignore the a--holes, we rob them of their power.
Anyone that says they don't believe in stereotypes on SOME level is either lying, or has so many friends of different races, they know to look around that foolishness. I know stereotypes are BS, you know they're BS. Any sensible human being would not subscribe to them. It's because I feel this way that I find stereotypes funny. I dare anyone on this forum to tell me that the movie Blazing Saddles (uncut) didn't make them laugh. That movie was a stereotypical assault of the senses, and Mel Brooks who's Jewish, only caught flak about the horse Alex Karras (Mongo) punched.
Know a joke from an insult... people will live longer. Oh, and I'm Black/Spanish/Indian/Puerto Rican and have lived in NY all my life.

I don't think it's funny or acceptable to make fun of any group of people, for any reason. You do have a valid point; our society seems to accept that it's okay to make fun of anyone other than blacks. Happy New Year. 2D

There have been some major changes in the way people treat each other in the last century, in a positive way.
It seems though, violent crimes against a certain group or type of person may be down, while lesser crimes against any group are up. There is some degradation that has been happening for centuries as well, as language, morals, and other characteristics of mature and developed society begin to fall apart.
it is NOT acceptable to stereotype anyone, but we all do it, (above you mentioned that American Indians open casinos...). People do stereotype blacks too.
I was always taught that all we can do is watch out for ourselves, and try to make sure that individually we are on our best behavior. No one wants to be told what to do, so setting rules for morality is a bad way to handle it. We just have to try on our own to be moral.

As someone else stated before, I think it's because Black people have fought so hard to keep from being stereotyped, that people know we don't stand for it when it does happen.
Now, it's not right to stereotype anyone. Because I was taught that you don't do anything to anyone you don't want done to you. But from my own personal experience, whites tend to laugh at being stereotyped, because I guess it's not looked upon in such a negative light.
And most of the stereotypes about white people are not that bad anyway. When you hear of anything involving white people its normally
1. Can't dance
2. Pay their bills on time
3. Have good credit
3. Listen to music by Frank Sinatra, or love T.V. Shows like "Friends".
Most of the time when you hear stuff about black people it's
1. Always eating watermelon and friend chicken
2. Nappy Hair
3. Drink 40oz while listening to gangsta rap.
Our stereotypes are always negative in portrayal.
And honestly, I can't really re-call hearing or laughing at any Asian stereotypes. I know there's racial slurs for all of us, but I can't think of anything bad about Asians. Or maybe it's because the focus is more on the black and white issues more than anything else. Either way, I don't like to stereotype anyone, because I don't want it done to me.

I have never felt it was okay to stereotype any ethinicity, even your own. I often wonder why certain cultures refer to themselves in terms that they take offense to when "outsiders" then use these terms. If it is racist when a person of another ethicity uses it, it is racist when you yourself use it.
I thoroughly believe in taking pride in your background and traditions but so many take it to extremes. We all need to remember that our ancestry saw many horrible acts of racism and hate but most people are working toward a better future. Remember the past but live in the present while working toward the future.

I don't know why they let people get away with it. I'm sick of all this talk of that the white man is oppressing the blacks, the media stereotypes. News flash it's their own people that stereotype. I've met many racists on either side. It's true they tend to make fun of Caucasians and Asians but not really African Americans. In my classes people make fun of asian all the time and no one says anything. But if they make a comment about African Americans everyone gasps and says there racists.

I think it's because I don't know too many Asians who would stand up against it. Many Asians that I know even make fun of the "stereotypical" Asian. Also there are a number of stereotypical Asians that feed into the jokes. And I find that people are more making fun of the stereotypical Asian versus every Asian person - which is still not right, but it's not like they are making fun of everyone.
Blacks have had a very bad history in the country and so it is frowned upon to even think of a white person to make fun of them. However, they are stereotyped - especially due to the media (ie news) and through music. But the Black people I know would react negatively, unlike the Asians I know.

I personally don't think it's ok to stereotype anyone.
In my opinion, society stereotyped blacks for so long as it is! But blacks faught (and continue to fight) against it, so much to the point now where it's not Ok in current society and speaking badly about blacks is taboo...as well it should be. Asians, for the most part, have let the jokes and stereotypes slide. Whites don't say much about them being made fun of because they'd oppressed so many races for so long. most of them just lump it.
