It might be the case that, not that many people openly practise racism, even in the south but there are some remains when it comes to business and wealth. I heard California and Washington state don't suffer much from racism I want to move from the south to states where I can grow financially without getting a strange look. So are those two states indeed ideal for minorities?

Yes, there are a few cities in California that you would want to stay away from but nothing serious like in places in Texas or the south. Worst case scenario in California is someone will call you a name (regardless of race) where in the South they still try to lynch and hang/beat you to death. In California its an everyday thing to see a lot of different races of people so you will only get 'looks' if you are in a very wealthy neighborhood and you don't look like you have money. Beware though, there are many tourists and visitors from other states that migrate there so you may encounter something that you might not normally when you make contact with these people.

oh, stay out of the ghettos also and you'll be ok.

I've been to Washington State. And Washington seemed "minority friendly" too me. I didn't get any strange looks like I did when I was in Alabama and the southern parts of Mississippi. But, I don't know about California. I think that Cal is so divers, that no matter who you are you'll get strange looks there.

But I didn't have a problem when I was in San Diego and Sacramento. Either way it goes, it all depends on you and how you want to spend your life. Do you want to spend it worrying about what people think of you because of the color of your skin? or do you want to work hard, save money for retirement, so they can look at you with envy as you roll your Phantom or Bentley down the street? No matter where you live you'll always have to deal with the looks if you're black, white, brown, yellow, or red. But it doesn't matter what you're called, it only matters what you answer too.
